Traffic Statistical Application provides insite to the Trends and Patterns of the traffic flow. This application can be implemented for higways, city road segments, parking etc.

Traffic analysis a critical fields today as there is increasing vehicle density, scarcity of road and the resulting pollution issues.

These statistical applications not only checks the revenue of a toll road but can also help to plan road usage, traffic flow patterns and traffic management.

These kind of studies help in increasing the revenue by promotions in weak segments, plugging the revenue leakage, regularising the process etc.

The application requires basic configuration for Project selection, Plaza selection,Origin and Destination as well as the tariff selection.

While entering the data, it is necessary to select the basic parameters from the master options as described above. (Figure - 1)

The charging method has options like Toll Collection, Scheme Sales and Petrolling. The Toll Collection is the process going on at the toll booth, while some bulk packages are sold at the plaza sales office. This sale for the day is added to the revenue of the toll for the same day (the scheme package sold will be used at a later date). Petrolling is a continuous activity on a toll road which is also considered here.

The data can be entered manually in each filed for a class of vehicle for all segments of the toll road or can be read from data file.
Date is the primary selection for the entire activity.

Main Features of Traffic Statistical Application

Auto data pickup from data files
Provision for Scheme based / toll collection records, also for Petrolling
traffic records
Toll Teriff Setup
Detailed reporting module -
tabulated and graphical reports

Selection of Toll Road, Plaza, Mode &
Charging Method

The manual data entry form (figure - 2) is a grid based approach with option for each class of the vehicles (class1 for 2 wheelers, class2 for 3 wheelers, class3 for cars etc.). The segments of toll roads are places across the various collection methods.

The user fills all the fields manually in the fields given. Provision is also made for multi-axle vehicles (above 5 axle trucks).

This data entry form also have statistical auto update fields at the bottom showing. These fields show basic statistics and are updated each time an entrys is added.

all Vehicle Types

Various Schemes are availed by the Toll Road Companies to offer bulk discounts. They can be Smart Cards, bulk coupons, Unlimited trips in a fixed time period, Limited trips over long time span etc.

The sales carried out for ecah of the above shemes are entered on this form. The entries are done by the toll road segments and by the class of vehicle it is offered in. (figure - 3)

This data entry form also have statistical auto update fields at the bottom showing. These fields show basic statistics and are updated each time an entrys is added.

all Vehicle Types

Petrolling is an essential activity carried out by the Toll Road Management Company all round the clock. According to a study this increases the revenue by 20%.

The Tolling collection by the Petrolling teams (by manual toll tickets or hand held computer printed tickets) is entered here. Entries are done by road segments as well as petrolling team numbers. There are multiple forms offered for each class. (figure - 3)

Data Entry for Collection by Petrolling
for all Vehicle Types

Manual data entry can be a very time consuming approach. For example if there are 10 vehicle classes, 4 plaza toll road, 4 segments between two plazas, 4 methods of tolling, the total entries for a day can go above 500 !

The application offers an interface, with a data file, to read all the information and load to the system. The auto data transfer is file structure sensitive and requires certain input parameters for data transfer like tolling methods, tolling plaza etc. (figure - 5)

In case of BOT agreemnts this interface will be directly with the
tolling system. In case of a third party tolling, a data file can be used
to transfer this bulk data.

Selection for Auot Data Transfer

The heart of the application- the reports are offered in tablulated format as well as graphical format as showm (figure 6).

The standard reports are: traffic for the day (plaza wise, class wise, segment wise etc. ) , collection of the day (class wise, plaza wise, segment wise, method wise etc.), Scheme sales, Petrolling Results etc.

The other analytical reports include comaprison reports i.e. traffic difference between two dates / toll roads / segments / class or date range etc.

These reports show the trends and patters of the traffic and can be
studied with other externally affecting parameters.

Various Statistical Reports

Although this appliation is specific and programmed for a toll road and can not be generalised for any road, there are basic configurations required. (figure - 7)

For example, the Toll Project Name is entered as the basic value and the plazas on it are also entered. The Road segments are provided on the form. The class of the vehicles is one of the major data input. Toll Collection method is also configured along with the Origin and Destination information.

Plaza Names Setup

The Tariff configuration is the most important parameter setting. This setup affect the revenue calculation.

The Toll amount is dependent on the charging methods used (single ticket, bulk tickets etc.), origin and destination of the trip and the class of the vehicle. After selecting these options the tariff amount is given. (figure - 8)

Also the Effective Date for this tariff is a very important input. In case of multiple tariff input for a given set of rate, the latest date values are used.

Provision is also made for different return fair if needed. i.e if the toll from place A to B is not the same for B to A, this application can handle it.

Reports are available for datewise tariff inserted.
